Manipur: 2nd COVID-19 patient’s co-passengers traced, all negative

Altogether,  49 people who had come in contact with Manipur’s second COVID-19 patient have tested  negative; results of family members, too, found negative

Imphal: Following the confirmation of a 65-year-old man testing positive for COVID-19 in Manipur, the second case in the state, the health department traced all the 31 high-risk co-passengers of the man who came from New Delhi to Imphal by an Air India flight on March 11.

As per the state COVID-19 Common Control Room, all the 31 co-passengers from the state have tested negative and found to be free of symptoms for coronavirus. However, they will continue to remain in self-quarantine and put under surveillance, as per protocol.

As per reports, the patient, a resident of Lilong area, traveled by Air India flight AI 889 from Delhi to Imphal and was seated on 8D.

Subsequently, all the other 18 persons who came in contact with the second COVID-19 positive case during his earlier treatment at Peace Hospital in Imphal have also tested negative. However, they will remain at the quarantine centre as precautionary measures.

So far, 49 people who had come in contact with the patient have tested negative. Moreover, test results of the family members have also been found to be negative.

After the man from Thoubal district confirmed positive for COVID-19, an active search for symptomatic cases was carried out around Turel Ahanbi, Salam Makha and Darul Uloom Mathak areas by the district surveillance team as per micro plans to contain the spread of the infectious disease in the area.

As per reports, no symptomatic case for coronavirus was detected from the locality during the operations.

The male COVID-19 patient and another nine persons from the state were linked to the Nizamuddin Markaz gathering held in Delh last month, the epicentre of novel coronavirus case in the country.

Of the 10 attendees of the religious meeting from the state, eight tested negative and the man who tested positive for coronavirus is undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of RIMS Hospital in Imphal. The test result of the remaining one person is still awaited.

Meanwhile, all the 37 high-risk co-passengers of the state’s first COVID-19 patient of AirAsia flight on March 21 from Kolkata to Imphal have successfully completed 14 days of facility quarantine without any signs or symptoms for coronavirus.

However, the state health department has referred them to RIMS and JNIMS for mandatory testing on Saturday, reports said.
