Manipur’s 1st ‘film city’ in Ukhrul to be fully functional by 2022

Imphal: The first film city in Manipur, the foundation stone of which was recently laid at Ringui village in Ukhrul district, is set to be fully functional by September 2022. This was informed by art and culture minister, L Jayantakumar Singh on the last day of the ongoing budget session of the 11th Manipur State Legislative Assembly on Friday.

Responding to a question raised by the Opposition MLA Surjakumar Okram on the progress of the Centre for Culture and Moving Images, Jayantakumar informed the House that the integrated campus with the museum, archive, studios, theatres and cinema centre, among others, is set to fully function within two years.

Jayantakumar further stated that the ambitious project at Ringui village has a proposed estimated budget of Rs 65.21 crore.

So far, as the minister informed the House, the villagers have donated approximately five acres of land towards the developmental project and another 10 acres of land is available for further expansion of the centre.

In response to a query by MLA Joykishan Singh, Jayantakumar, who also holds the portfolio of health, law and legislative affairs, informed the House that the duties and function of the director of prosecution holding scrutiny of charge sheets framed by investigating officers before submission to the concerned criminal court.

Moreover, in the absence of the director of the prosecution, the secretary (law) at present is the entrustment charge on an interim basis, he said.

Health minister Jayantakumar was replying to a query raised by MLA Alfred Kanngam Arthur. He stated that the total number of recruited medical staff, including doctors and nurses, from 2017 till date is 1,461.
