Manipur: Bus service from Imphal to Mandalay to start from April 7

Initially, there will be three trips in a week and later, the service would be available for seven days a week depending on passengers’ demand

Imphal: In an effort to build bilateral relations with neighbouring Myanmar, Imphal-Mandalay bus service are set to be launched on April 7 this year. The announcement was made by chief minister N Biren Singh, who is also in charge of transport department, on the third day of the ongoing budget session of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly session.

On April 7, the bus service to Imphal would be flagged off from Mandalay in Myanmar and another bus service to Mandalay would be flagged off from Imphal on the next day, said the report.

As per the report, a Mandalay-based local bus company Shwe Mandalar Express Co. Ltd would manage the service from Mandalay whereas in India, Seven Sister Holidays Co Ltd would operate from Imphal.

Initially, there would be three trips in a week and later, the service would be available for seven days a week depending on passengers' demand, said the report.

The bus service from Imphal, the capital city of Manipur, would take around 14 hour by road to reach the destination in Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar.

Besides building bilateral relations between the two countries, the bus service between Imphal and Mandalay aims to promote tourism and improve people to people contact.

State chief minster N Biren D Singh also informed the House that Imphal-Mandalay flight service may soon launched under UDAAN scheme. Tenders have been invited after due permission taken from the Civil Aviation Ministry for the flight service, he said.
