Imphal: The five-day long North East National Service Scheme (NSS) Festival 2020 kick-started at Manipur University, the lone university of the state, in Imphal on Sunday.
Organised by the NSS cell in Manipur University, the festival is being conducted in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati under the aegis of the Union ministry of youth affairs and sports.
Clad in traditional attire, around 300 NSS volunteers from across the eight Northeastern states are participating in the 5-day event which aims to encourage and promote and promote the diverse culture and traditions of the region.
The platform also provides the participants to interact with each other, and build trust and confidence to bringing peace, harmony and unity. The festival will conclude on February 6.
Speaking at the inaugural event on Monday, minister of CAF & PD, Karam Shyam, reiterated the importance of youth life and its crucial stage in life while shaping the future.
“Youth life is an important stage of our life from where we shape our final model of our life. From this stage, we start converting whatever knowledge we attain into its practical uses,” said minister Shyam.
The minister also appealed to the participants to stay focus and render good services which a society or nation is in need. "We want our students (youth) to develop skills and a sense of responsibility so that it will also reflect in their personality development,” added programme coordinator Dr K Shitajit.
