After Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Sikkim, Manipur selected for Pradhan Mantri Mantru Vandana Yojana in category of States/UTs with population of less than 1 cr
Imphal: Department of social welfare, Manipur on Monday bagged the third position for exemplary performance in the implementing of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) scheme, during Matru Vandana Saptah award ceremony held in New Delhi.
After Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Sikkim, Manipur was selected for the award in the category of States/UTs having a population of less than 1 crore.
Following the award being received by the state, social welfare and cooperation minister, Nemcha Kipgen, lauded the department for the achievement and said that it was the concerted efforts of all concern officials, officers and line departments that such laurels are achieved for Manipur.
Kipgen further encouraged all to continue striving hard for the welfare of the state through the various schemes and programmes implemented by the government.
The award was being presented by union minister of women and child development, Smriti Irani and received by state social welfare director, Ng Uttam Singh and deputy secretary, Dr Sonia Oinam.
Union minister Irani appreciated the improvement in enrolment from 29% to 71% during the last one year under PMMVY during the Matru Vandana Saptah.
PMMVY scheme is to provide incentives of Rs 5,000 to pregnant women and lactating mothers for the first living child of the family in three instalments for the loss of wages of working women and to ensure their proper rest and nutrition during pregnancy. The payment of the incentive amount is deposited directly into the bank account.
According to the official report, a total of 30,481 beneficiaries have enrolled since the inception of this scheme in Manipur.
Special enrolment help desk were also opened during Matru Vandana Saptah in all government hospitals, CHCs, PHCs, sub-centres and private hospitals for facilitating on spot registration for eligible beneficiaries under PMMVY.
The Matru Vandana Saptah is a week-long maternity benefit programme which was taken under PMMVY from December 2-8 last year with the aim to intensify the implementation of the scheme; to create a healthy competition among state/UTs, and felicitate states/UTs and districts for exemplary performance in implementation of PMMVY since its inception and during Matru Vandana Saptah.
In Manipur, the Matru Vandana Saptah was observed till December 16 last year as advised by the chief minister N Biren Singh in public interest.
