Tamenglong: Emmanuel Baptist Church, probably one of the biggest churches in Manipur, was inaugurated in Tamenglong district headquarters amid much fanfare on Friday.
The superlative church was inaugurated by Manipur Baptist Church general secretary Rev Dr Wungnaoting Konghar in presence of leaders from various churches of the state and church members.
The church, which got incepted in 1972 with a few households, started the project in 2008 with an aim to expand mission and evangelism while providing better place for worship to faiths irrespective of caste, creed, community and religion.
After 12 years of struggles with less resource, Emmanuel Baptist Church is now standing majestically tall on one of the hilltops of the hill district with an approximate cost of Rs 7 crore.
With 71 ft width, 145 ft length and 121 ft height, the newly constructed church has a comfortable seating capacity of over 2,500 church goers.
At present, Emmanuel Baptist Church has close to 3,000 members with 256 households altogether.
According to youth president Athong Gonmei, with the utmost support and unity among the members and well wishers has led to the completion of the project despite financial shortage faced by the church.
The magnificent church is being built with a blue domain on top and white turrets on the front side of the building.
