Imphal: The Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, which was recently extended to cover Manipur during the winter session of Lok Sabha recently, would be fully implemented in the state starting from January 1 next year. The announcement was made by chief minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday on the first day of the winter session of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly in Imphal.

According to the chief minister, drafting of rules and regulations for effective implementation of ILP is already in process and would be published in the official gazette of the state once completed.

CM Singh was responding to a calling attention motion moved by Opposition members Kh Joykisan Singh and RK Imo Singh on the opening day of the 9th Assembly session of the state.

Singh further said that the permit system would be issued for different categories based on the purposes of the visitors and issuance of entry forms will be done through respective district deputy commissioners.

As such, the state government has already selected around eight entry points where the permit system would be issued including Moreh, Mao, Jiribam and Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, he added.

In addition to drafting of rules and regulations, the state has also started developing software for online issuance of entry forms to ease applying ILP forms for visitors from outside, it said.

Suitable provisions for visitors without ILP will also be included in the rules and regulations.

The three-day long session will conclude on December 20.
