Imphal: Hundreds of people gathered at historic Kangla Fort on Friday evening in Manipur’s Imphal city and attended a candlelight vigil amid heavy security.

The vigil was being organised by the North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP) in collaboration with Manipur People Against CAB (MANPAC) to extend solidarity and unconditional support to the people of Assam and other parts of Northeast states against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

The vigil was also an extension of support and cooperation in the fight to protect and safeguard the identity of the indigenous people of the northeast region.

Speaking with media persons, MANPAC convenor Yumnamcha Dilipkumar informed that, “People of Manipur under MANPAC is cooperating with the agitations taken up in various parts of northeast states against CAB and we are ready to render our services to those affected people from other parts of the northeast region.”

Despite the extension of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Manipur, MANPAC, which has been spearheading the anti-CAB protests in the state announced to continue their agitations as the apprehension of the people over possible demographic invasion persists.

“We welcomed the declaration and implementation of ILP in Manipur. However, our agitation will continue because MANPAC has been demanding for complete non-extension of CAB in the entire northeast region,” Dilipkumar added.

MANPAC is scheduled to hold a review meeting on December 14 to deliberate and discuss the due course of action to be taken with the implementation of ILP in the state.

The state government have to take up necessary proceedings for ready implementation of ILP in the state..
