Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Saturday formally launched Alliance Air’s maiden flight service connecting Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati under UDAN, a regional connectivity scheme. With this launch, the state will now be directly connected by air with its neighbouring state, Nagaland.

The flight, which was flagged off from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal, was given a traditional water canon salute.

Soon after the launch, CM Singh took to his Twitter handle and wrote: “Glad to have attended the launching ceremony of the inaugural flight of Guwahati-Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati by Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India under Regional Connectivity Scheme-UDAN from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, Today.”

The inaugural flight ceremony were also attended by tribal affairs & hills and fisheries minister N Kayisii, PHED minister L Dikho and other state officials.

According to reports, the flight will connect Guwahati to Dimapur and Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati thrice a week on both the routes.

The 70-seater aircraft flight between Imphal and Dimapur will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with a flight duration of 50 minutes long, reports said.

The cost of a one-way ticket from Imphal to Dimapur and vice versa will cost Rs 1,811, as per reports. Similarly, Nagaland transport minister P Paiwang Konyak also flagged off the inaugural flight at Dimapur Airport on the same day.
