Security forces bust illegal drug manufacturing factory at Sada Kumbi in Thoubal, 2 held; in another operation, joint team recovers 40,000 WIY tablets worth Rs 1.2 cr, 1 arrested
Imphal: In a continuous effort in cracking down illicit drug activities in Manipur, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered a huge quantity of drugs in two separate operations in a single day, said sources.
Based on specific intelligence, troops of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police busted an illegal drug manufacturing factory at Sada Kumbi area in Thoubal district. The search team also arrested two individuals, identified as Wungreingam Awungshi and Ningkhan, in connection with an illegally-run processing lab in the area.
During interrogation, the duo further confessed to being involved in the drug business and disclosed of supplying drugs to the youth of Manipur and Nagaland.
The joint team later recovered a huge quantity of drugs worth Rs 150 crore, including 41.3 kg of heroin brown sugar (solid), 10 litres of morphine (liquid), drug processing equipment and Rs 2.8 lakh, it said.
In another operation, Assam Rifles and police personnel intercepted a suspicious vehicle at Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district.
During a thorough-check, the search team recovered 40,000 World Is Yours (WIY) tablets valued over Rs 1.2 crore.
The arrested individual has been identified as Md Amar Shah, 24, of Monijing Wangmatba.
The arrested individuals and recovered items have been handed over to the police for further investigation, the sources added.
