Also an official information leaflet on traffic rules and ‘know how’s’ of road safety measurements was launched as part of the programme
Ukhrul: In a time when citizens have become the lamentable victims in road accidents due to lack of awareness, Ukhrul Traffic Police on Tuesday launched a programme on traffic awareness and road safety in Manipur’s Ukhrul district headquarters.
The programme was organised by Ukhrul Traffic Police in collaboration with Autonomous District Council (ADC) Ukhrul, DC Ukhrul, NHIDCL, transport department Ukhrul and Ukhrul District Legal Services under the theme “Follow Traffic, Save Life”.
According to organisers, the first-of-its-kind event was staged with an aim to raise awareness of road safety related-issues among drivers and pedestrians; and also to educate the drivers about traffic rules and safe driving.
Speaking at the launch, deputy commissioner of Ukhrul, Joseph Pauline Kamson, said that combative driving has caused many lives, adding, the obedience of traffic rules is the need of the hour to reduce road mishaps.
Kamson also appealed the driver to maintain discipline and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and other intoxicants that can kill near and dear ones.
During an official launch of the information leaflets on traffic rules and ‘know how’s’ of road safety measurements, ADC chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung urged the denizens of the hill district to obey traffic rules and imbibed a sense of responsibility; and also to extend their cooperation to the concerned department for safety commute.
Educating the people, especially the children on road safety measures can be a crucial task since it is dealt with ensuring the safety of future generation; however, it is coherent and specific to usher the awareness programme to be ‘street smart’ it said.
The mobile roadshow was kick-started from Ava market (mothers’ market) and later the crowd dispersed the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) ground.
The leaflets issued by Ukhrul Traffic Police also focused on general information of Ukhrul traffic management plan, parking spaces allotment, 10 golden rules of road safety, nine common driving mistakes, new fines under Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 and mandatory or regulatory signs to be followed by drivers.
