Ukhrul: Manipur, popularly known as the ‘land of jewels’, has been abundantly blessed with undulating hills and mountains which make it a picture-perfect state.

Among the many unique landscapes and scenic locales, Manipur’s eastern frontier bordering Myanmar houses one of the most exquisite waterfalls, interestingly called Tilily or Tiluelue waterfalls in Ukhrul district. Incidentally, this waterfall which lies in Khayang-Phungtha villages at a height of 754 feet has also been declared as the highest in the state.

Despite the superlative tag, the waterfall remains one of the most unexplored tourist spots in the region.

The word ‘Tilily’ is derived from Phungtha village, with ‘Ti’ meaning water and ‘Lily’ as a cascading of water. The waterfall is also dearly called ‘Tiluelue’ carrying a similar meaning by the villagers of Khayang.

Located at a distance of nearly 100 km from the district headquarters, this picturesque waterfall lies amid the cluster of dark greens and thickly forested areas featuring varied flora and fauna of the region.

The journey towards the waterfall can be certainly almost covered by vehicle except the two-hour-long trek to reach at the top of the falls after reaching the local residence in Phungtha village.

As you snail through the trail before climbing up at the top of the majestic falls, one may witness the real beauty of nature as streams, river and mammoth of trees envelope in the dense forest which offers a pristine glimpse of a much simpler world and life.

Despite trekking through the steep road for hours, the very first glimpse of the falls and serene location make you forget all the exhaustion and fatigue. One may hear the sufficiently loud gurgling sound of water as the falls cascade down the deep-black rocks, but the trek to the falls is sure to rejuvenate you both mind and soul.

The place itself offers an ultimate site for camping and lets you an experience of a lifetime with every bit of tranquility with being so close to nature. The best time to visit the waterfall is from October to March.
