25.5 kg of suspected contraband item, 145 litres of morphine solution worth Rs 25 crore recovered in Thoubal; accused identified as Md Jane Alam & Md Sadam Hussain
Imphal: In a major development towards fighting illegal drug businesses in the state, Manipur Police along with a team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) and ANJUMAN volunteers on Saturday busted a drug manufacturing factory in Thoubal district and seized large quantity of morphine products at various stages of production worth over Rs 25 crore along with arms and ammunition, said official reports.
The team under the supervision of NAB, Manipur carried out the raid at the clandestine factory at Waithou in Sangomsang and seized 25.5 kg of suspected brown sugar, three SBBL rifles and nine live rounds of cartridges, said W Basu Singh, PRO of Manipur Police.
As per reports, the raid, which was carried out by the police after careful surveillance of the suspect and its activities over a period of time, have arrested two persons in connection with the raid.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Jane Alam, 30, and Md Sadam Hussain, 29, of Lilong Sangomsang Suktu Karong constituency of Thoubal district, said the statement.
Various items used in the manufacturing of heroin brown sugar, including 145 litres of concentrated morphine solution, 2 kg of ammonium chloride, 9 kg of lime, one wooden pressing machine, one weighing machine, one handy cash counter and cash amounting to Rs 3,560 were also recovered from the factory.
Preliminary findings conducted at Pangei Forensic Science and Laboratory have indicated the presence of narcotic substances in all the sample seized from the raid, said the report.
A case has been registered against the two arrested individuals for further investigation, it said.
