From wild hornets to freshly-cooked pork, crab and frog dishes, visitors treated to array of exotic dishes at Halang vllage in Ukhrul, blessed with abundance of cosmos flowers
Ukhrul: How about a unique dining experience amid nature with an elaborate spread of exotic delicacies? That was what exactly food lovers got to experience at the Cosmos Food Carnival in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Thursday.
The festival, which was organised by the Christian Youth Society of Halang village in aid of its new building construction, was held at Zingkat Wonra, a recreational park situated within the premises of the village.
“The Cosmos Flower Festival was started way back in 1960s with an aim to promote the beauty of cosmos flowers, which are abundantly found in the village. But this year, in place of the flower festival, the Christian Youth Society of our village organised the food festival to raise funds for its upcoming building construction,” said Timothy Zingyo Horam, a local resident.
Visitors were greeted with head gears made out of cosmos flowers which is abundantly found in the village.
However, what makes the festival more exclusive and unique from the other food carnival is the simplicity of the villagers, their way of merry-making and above all, the authentic delicacies being neatly spread-out amidst the nature.
Zingkat Wonra, which is a picture-perfect recreational park, is situated at Halang village with 30 minutes’ drive from the hill district headquarters. The place is blessed with untamed beauty of natural biodiversity, the mesmerizing light which plays with shadows and colours between the oak trees and behold- the magnificent sight of mountains being perfectly surrounded the park.
Popularly known as Halang Park, Zingkat Wonra bestows a perfect gateway to those who wish to wish to have close-up intimidation with nature. Slowly, the place is well-known among the youths and families for a picture place for recreation.
The day-long food festival offered an array of traditional food ranging from wild hornet to freshly cooked pork. Among the list of menu, crab and frog dishes were among the most sought-out delicacies during the festival.
One could easily get tempted after seeing the gourmet being perfectly placed and welcomed the food lovers gathered at the event.
For visitors, the festival gave an ultimate culinary experience and savoured every bite offered at the Halang food carnival.
Apart from offering exotic cuisines of the Tangkhul community, visitors also witnessed how the village of over 600 households continue to uphold the traditionally way of socialising and merry-making.
The villagers, old and young alike, joined the band of choirs singing and dancing, making a perfect evening for visitors.
