Inspection carried out by CM N Biren Singh at various offices in Imphal; defaulters include 5 under secretary-level officers, 3 joint secretaries, 2 deputy secretaries
Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Saturday carried out surprise inspections at various government offices in Imphal and found many employees, including few high-level officers, absent from work without taking leave.
The surprise check was made at secretariat offices, located at Babupara. As many as 223 employees, including five at under secretary-level officers, three joint secretaries and two deputy secretaries were marked absent without prior leave applications or intimation.
Soon after the inspection, an official circular was issued where CM Biren Singh sought explanations from the defaulting employees. In the statement, the chief minister further directed the heads of the departments to ensure that the staff attended their respective offices on time and improve the work environment.
During his visit, the chief minister was also seen checking the bio-metric attendance marking system for the officers and staff put at secretariat building.
Meanwhile, as per the circular, an extraordinary leave without pay was imposed on those employees who were found missing from their workplace during an inspection.
The concerned DDO of GAD shall be personally responsible for deduction of salary for one day for the month of September this year, informed chief secretary DJ Suresh Babu.
Moreover, a large section of people have lauded the initiative of the chief minister for undertaking such inspection and termed that it will improve the work environment and enhancing productivity. Also, such inspection conveys the administration sensitivity and enabling participatory work culture in the state.
