Manipur to get full-fledged FCI regional office by Jan 1, 2020

Imphal: By January 1 next year, Manipur will get a full-fledged regional office of the Food Corporation of India (FCI). This was announced by Union minister for food and consumer affairs Ram Vilas Paswan while addressing media persons in Imphal on Friday.

“The existing regional office of FCI, which was started in 2014 at the Old Assembly Complex in Imphal, will soon turn into a full-fledged regional office by January 1, 2020, making it the first in the entire Northeast region,” Pawan said.

The Union minister also chaired a review meeting with state consumer affairs and revenue minister Karam Shyam and regional FCI officials on FCI operation, PDS computerisation, procurement and other related matter of NE states.

By functioning as a full-fledged regional office, the state FCI will enhance to execute the work seamlessly and maintain accountability and transparency on various schemes and projects under the National Food Security Act, the Union minister informed.

During the press conference, Paswan also announced that the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ policy will be rolled out across the country from June 1, 2020. So far, altogether 14 states of India have already started the process and installations of the required equipment will be ready in three months’ time.

Paswan further stated that the card will enable beneficiaries to avail of services in different parts of the country rather than confining it in a certain state.

Meanwhile, the Union minister also informed that a new food depot is soon to come up at Churachandpur district and is already under construction.
