2 scooter-borne armed youths opened fire at deceased, charged with rape and murder bid in 2017, when he was at a kiosk near his residence in Bishnupur dist on Sunday
Bishnupur: Two unidentified miscreants on Sunday night allegedly shot at a rape accused in Manipur’s Bishnupur district. The incident happened when two scooter-borne armed youths opened fire at the deceased, identified as Dhanashyam Heisnam alias Lalboy, 23, when he was at a kiosk near his residence at Thanga Heisnam Leikai, as per reports.
Heisnam, who was charged in connection with the rape and attempted murder of a girl in 2017, was on bail for the past one month after he was detained by police at Sajiwa Jail in Imphal East.
According to the police, Heisnam was rushed to the hospital in nearby Moirang with bullet injuries on his head, chest and right calf. Later, he was brought to Imphal but succumbed to his injuries.
Despite reports of some militant groups being involved in the killing of rape accused in few occasions earlier, the police have not ruled out the involvement of any insurgent group in the incident so far, said reports.
According to the police report, on February 13, 2017, Heisnam, hailing Thanga Heisnam Leikai near Loktak area, raped a local girl with the help of four other accused and later tried to kill the victim.
As per reports in local dailies, some months before the rape incident occurred, the main accused captured some pictures of the victim in her school dress.
Later, the victim found her edited pictures at a local photo studio and, when enquired about it, she was informed that the still photographs were given by Heisnam for editing. Soon after, the victim was blackmailed by the accused saying he would upload the photographs taken by him on social media if she does not become his girlfriend.
Unfortunately, on a fateful afternoon, the victim was called out from her home by one of the co-accused saying Heisnam had to clarify regarding the photos. Following this, she was raped, the report said.
