The suspected WY tablets were found concealed in carpet rolls in a Tata pickup truck; 5 persons, including a foreign national, arrested in this connection
Thoubal: In what could be termed as the biggest drug seizure in the Northeast state, Manipur police on Saturday intercepted a vehicle and seized suspected World is Yours (WY) tablets worth Rs 400 crore in Thoubal district.
During the drive, five persons, including a foreign national, were arrested in connection with the illegal drugs smuggling. A case has been registered at the Thoubal police station for further investigation.
According to the official report, the drive was carried out with various police teams and local bodies.
“On preliminary questioning of the driver of the Tata DI, namely Mohammad Hussain (35), son of Zakir Hussain of Thoubal Wangkhem Muslim Mamang Leikai, it was suspected that some narcotic substances were kept concealed in his vehicle,” said a release issued by Thoubal SP S Ibomcha Singh.
The foreign national, identified as Kyaw Kyaw Naing alias Abdul Rahim, according to report, was trying to smuggle out drugs while packing them neatly in carpet rolls. Rahim was arrested at Imphal Airport upon the driver’s disclosure during investigation.
Besides the illicit drugs, the police also found Indian currency of Rs 60,000, $1,500, 500 kyats, two mobile phones, a passport and some documents in possession of Rahim.
The latest development has been termed as one of the biggest hauls of illicit drugs ever seized in the history of Northeast India.
