The seized items are believed to be of outlawed outfit Kangleipak Communist Party that is allegedly involved in widespread extortion to fund its terror activities

Guwahati: A combined team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Assam Rifles on Thursday impounded a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Lamlai in Manipur’s Imphal East district.

According to reports, the joint team seized one AK-56 rifle along with three magazines and 180 live rounds. They also recovered one 0.38 pistol along with four live rounds, two hand grenades and five camouflage uniforms.

Manipur chief minister lauded the team effort on Twitter on Thursday and said, “Congratulations to the combined team of NIA, 6AR and Imphal East Commando unit on recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition believed to be belonging to outlawed organisation KCP (PWG) from Lamlai, Imphal East, today morning.”

The seized materials are believed to belong to the outlawed outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP).

The search was conducted in connection with 2017 NIA case, and after the raid, it has been re-registered under Sections 17, 18, 20 & 21 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

It is reported that the case relates to the criminal conspiracy hatched by cadres of proscribed organisation KCP (PWG) Manipur to extort money from local people, government departments, schools, institutions, etc, in order to fund the outfit’s terror activities in Manipur.

NIA has already chargesheeted and arrested four persons in this case: Laishram Ranjit Meitei alias Tamnganba, Khumanthem Naobicha Singh alias Jack, Thoudam Chaothoi Singh and Moirangthem Rana Meitei.
