Imphal: In a shocking incident, two transgender women from Manipur were allegedly raped at knife-point in Bengaluru, Karnataka on May 12. On Saturday, the Bengaluru police arrested the three persons involved in the incident.

According to reports, the incident took place at one of the victims’ residence at the Koramangala area of the city. However, the victims were reluctant to approach the police fearing the usual apathy shown by the law enforcers and the society in general towards members of the third gender.

Later, with the support of the All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association (AMANA), a livelihood support for transgender communities, and friends changed their minds and reported the case to the police who took prompt action in nabbing the accused.

“Police was very fast in taking action. The three people are in police custody now. We are happy with the action,” one of the victims was quoted as saying by The News Minute.

While recounting the horrific incident, one of the victims told The News Minute: “The three men put their knives on our necks and asked us to remove our dress. When we begged them to leave us alone, they threatened to harm us. We were afraid and we did not know what to do. We had no option.”

According to reports, the two victims are in their mid-20s and living in the city for better education and career opportunities.
