Complaint lodged against N Biren Singh for making personal attacks on Congress candidate O Nabakishore Singh in a BJP political conference held on March 29
Imphal: The returning officer (RO) of Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice the chief minister’s personal secretary, Salam Ranjan Singh, demanding an explanation for alleged model code of conduct violation by CM N Biren Singh over making defamatory speeches against Congress candidate O Nabakishore Singh in a public gathering on March 29.
Meanwhile, the RO has directed the CM’s secretary to give explanation by 4 pm on April 17, failing which it will caution to proceed the matter as ‘ex parte’.
The Congress candidate in his complaint asserted that CM Singh had made personal attacks on him in a BJP political conference held on March 29 at Yumnam Khunou in Imphal East district.
“The statement made by N Biren Singh was defamatory that can tarnish my image and also mislead the voters,” Nabakishore further said.
Significantly, the CM made the reference of former chief secretary alleging Nabakishore of being involved in many scandals and hence was removed from his position unceremoniously.
The RO further stated that District Election Office, Imphal East has submitted a report along with video footage that records the speech of N Biren Singh defaming Nabakishore Singh as quoted in the complaint lodged by the latter.
