‘I always wanted to be an anchor, always wanted to be in front of the camera,’ but she landed up behind the camera to become one of Assam’s well known photographers. Starting with wedding photography because these are ‘fun and captures happy moments’ to becoming the official photographer of North East International Fashion Weekend (NEIFW), Kakali Das has come a long way.
Kakali is 29 and her journey as a photographer did not start very long ago. It was in 2014 that she began shooting weddings along with her husband. “Wedding photography is something which is very sweet and happy. Weddings are a joyful family affair. So my love for wedding photography grew,” Kakali said during her candid chat with team VibesMojo.
“I love capturing peoples’ expressions, emotions and moments. In a single day of work you get to meet thousands of different people which is amazing. Creating a bond with the client and their family is the best part of this wedding shoots’’, Kakali added with a big smile across her face.
But by 2017 life got really busy for Kakali and her Nikon. She became the official photographer of the Femina Miss India Auditions held in Guwahati for the first time. Before she could even catch her breath, the very next year, in 2018 she along with her husband became the official photographers of NEIFW. Last year, Kakali completed her first international wedding assignment on at Koh Samui in Thailand. That’s not all. She became a Jury member in the Miss and Mrs India International Season 2.

This lady narrates thousands of untold stories through her Nikon D850, D810 and Z7. People who know her and her style of photography knows that her pictures are slanted, very rarely straight. “The reason I upload slanted pictures is because sometimes the image fails to fulfil all the criteria that you have in your mind to convey something through your picture or the photograph, therefore you need to make the picture a little slanted’’, Kakali explained.
Belonging to a family of doctors, bankers, professors and engineers, Kakali had her share of problems and challenges before taking up photography as a profession. She had to overcome a lot of hurdles, convincing her family was the biggest one. It took a year to convince her family but she said that her efforts, her urge to work gave her the strength to stand her ground. She pursued her passion that gave her a name and fame today.
