Basant Panchami, also known as Saraswati Puja, is a Hindu festival celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion all over the country. On this day, Goddess Saraswati, the epitome of wisdom, is worshipped, especially by the students. Basant Panchami 2022: Significance & Rituals

Basant Panchami marks the commencement of the spring season in India and then, the mustard flower blooms. That’s the reason the yellow plays a significant role on this occasion.

On this auspicious day, people deck up in yellow coloured clothes and worship Goddess Saraswati, as yellow is said to be the favourite of the Goddess. Students observe fast on this day and seek blessing from the deity of prosperity. Pushpanjali, which means offering flowers to the deity with prayers, is a major part of the puja. On Saraswati Puja, young children embark on their first step to education as the day is considered most prosperous for the new beginning of learning in any field. The ritual is known as ‘Akshar Abhyasam’ or ‘Vidya Arambham’.
