The city of Guwahati just witnessed one of the best music festivals. The 4th Guwahati International Music Festival (GIMF) which was held in Shilpagram on February 29 and March 1 witnessed power-packed performances by various bands from across South East Asia.
What better way to end the week than by listening to the musical renditions of Lucky Ali, Benny Dayal, Paradigm Shift from Nagaland, Opnairdrgmht from Vietnam, Dr. Dope, Bottle Rockets India and Rajan Shrestha from Nepal, T Vanlalhmangaihi from Mizoram, etc. to name a few. Icing on the cake, the festival had no entry fees and had a line-up of various ethnic food stalls to tingle those taste buds. The festival also witnessed a Northeast competition round with performances by bands like Lallianpuia Thangluah, Perennial from Mizoram, and Thunders Cave from Meghalaya. Additionally an ethnic food competition was also organised for the homemakers as a part of the festival inaugurated by Lok Sabha MP Rameswar Teli.
Organized by Eastern Beats Music Society in collaboration with North Eastern Council, Government of India, the 4th Guwahati International Music Festival showcased a line-up that brings together some of the most significant artists from the Asian circuit along with the leading stakeholders of the industry.
The festival was preceded by a one-of-its-kind “Northeast India Music Conference” at NEDFi House which saw the participation of industry leaders, benefiting the musicians of the region.
The ideation of the festival, which is the brainchild of Northeast-based writer and cultural activist Aiyushman Dutta, was conceived way back in 2010 in order to provide a platform wherein musical maestros from across the globe can share the stage and collaborate with indigenous music and cultural practitioners.
