The usual sultry Saturday afternoon of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) in the 9th Mile area of Ri Bhoi district was interrupted by the roaring of bikes and a continuous progression of rap songs.
That’s how the second episode of #SetWetGo, a first-ever biking campaign in Northeast India, made its mark at the university.
The day-long event was organised by Set Wet, Marico’s male grooming and styling master brand, in partnership with Assam Bikers, one of the most popular biking groups of the region, in Guwahati, Assam. The objective of the campaign was to interact with the youths of the Northeast and what better way than biking as a medium of engagement in this part of the country.
The roar of the bikes brought in many spectators, bike enthusiasts and participants alike to witness this adrenaline-seeped event. As the team of Assam Bikers rode in perfect formation with proper gear, the audience was left with nothing but to gawk at the spectacle. The perfect coordination between each of the bikers was a clear sign of their professionalism. One can see their dedication and years of practice with their metal partners when they rode and conducted themselves during the entire event.
The event kick-started with the division into four colour-coded teams. The teams then set to battle each other in various activities. The first was a “tube blowing” contest in which each of the participants had to fill the tube of a bike tire by their strength, that too in the shortest time possible.
This was followed by the “figure of 8” contest with the biker balancing one rider behind as he attempts to complete an eight shaped path without ever putting his foot in the ground. The rider on the other hand has to launch tennis balls in baskets placed near the path. The team with the most number of balls in the basket takes the crown.
This was then followed by the “instant get-up change” competition in which the participants needed to change into a biker jacket, apply Set Wet hair wax, put on the biker gloves, take the helmet and run to the dice with the shortest time possible.

The event also saw a gathering of local freestyle rappers-cum-musicians like MC Insane, Big Panda and AKHU, hyping up the crowd with their literally insane music prowess, dance moves, and skills. One also needs to mention the skillful deliberations of Reeky Sharma who was the MC of the event as he tied the event together.
