JD Institute of Fashion Technology holds 14th Annual Design Awards 2019

With an air of innovation and the glamour of fashion, JD Institute of Fashion Technology hosted the 14th Annual Design Awards 2019 at ITA Machkhowa in Guwahati, Assam on July 20.

Keeping in mind the aim to propel its students in the professional field of interior design and fashion design, JD Institute of Fashion Technology conducts this programme annually. This year, it showcased 70 garments designed by over 50 students of the institute. Students from the interior design displayed over 15 artistic interior exhibits of over 30 students.

The awards included titles for both fashion and interior design students in the likes of ‘Most Innovative Design’, ‘Most Commercially Viable Design’, ‘Best Research work’ and ‘Best Design.’

The theme for the 14th installation of the annual awards was ‘Switch,’ signifying a shift from the existing perceptions and exploring the unknown. With the attendance of eminent fashion personalities of the likes of Harsh Dalal, director JD Institute of Fashion Technology India, fashion designer and choreographer Prashant Ghosh and interior designers Neera Kar and Alpana Baruah.

The interior exhibition started from 9.30 am with various eye-catchy pieces from the student designers including a foldable sofa-cum-dining table, resin tiles, plexi-glass table set and many more, each defining their own perspective of the theme ‘Switch’.

The fashion show started at 6 pm with a highlight to a very serious issue of organ donation. Spokesperson from the Zublee Foundation gave an enlightening speech of the usefulness of organ donation after the donor passes away.

The show bedazzled the audience with 19 back-to-back sequences each with its own flare of uniqueness. Ranging from ethnic bridal wear range made entirely of a new fabric which is made out of banana fibers mixed with Tussar silk to a futuristic fashion sequence of auto luminescence material.

The entire show was a treat for the senses as both the interior and the fashion designing students took the line of creativity to its extreme limit properly justifying the theme ‘Switch.’
