Guwahati: Sriya Lenka, who is just 18 years old, has been chosen by the Korean pop band ‘Blackswan’ as one of their new members along with Brazil’s Gabriela Dalcin.

Blackswan‘s label DR Music announced the news on Instagram. “Sriya and Gabi were finally selected as members of Blackswan after participating in the global audition program for last 6 months,” their post said.

Blackswan, which now consists of six members – Youngheun, Judy,  Sriya,  Fatou, Leia and Gabi – made its debut in 2020.

Sriya Lenka was born in 2003 in the small city of Rourkela in Odisha. She is a trained Hindustani classical singer, and a contemporary dancer. She also specialises in Odissi.

“Since I have a deep voice, I faced difficulty in finding the right vocal trainer. My grandmother helped me find one,” Sriya was quoted by Odisha Bytes.

The teenager further added, “She took me to a Hindustani classical music teacher, who taught me twice a week. But, for the western songs, I had to rely on online videos and self-learning.”

Sriya Lenka was one of the finalists selected to train with Blackswan in Seoul last year. After the band’s oldest member, Hyeme, quit in November 2020, Blackswan’s hunt for the fifth member started.

The K-Pop band announced a mega audition last year to replace their oldest band member. Gabriela Dalcin and Sriya Lenka were chosen as the two finalist among 4000 applicants.

Initially, ‘Blackswan’ wanted just one member to replace their former bandmate but has agreed to bring in both Lenka and Dalcin.

Sriya Lenka and Gabriela Dalcin will be practicing in Seoul for the next few months. The duo had to undergo intense training processes including standard vocal, dance and rap lessons along with personal and language training for the last 5 months. They are also learning new musical instruments.
