The widely-watched Netflix show, simply titled You, will see its third season released on October 15 on Netflix.
Netflix tweeted the release date with four stills from the upcoming season. An accompanying teaser with Joe speaking to his newborn baby was also released.
The show stars Penn Badgley, Elizabeth Lail, Shay Mitchell, Victoria Pedretti, Jenna Ortega and James Scully. Based on the book of the same name by Caroline Kepnes, the first season of the show follows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), a New York bookstore owner and sociopath, who falls in love with a pretty woman named Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail).
Season 1 ends with the brokenhearted Joe murdering Beck and moving to Los Angeles under a false name. In Season 2, which is based on the sequel novel ‘Hidden Bodies’, Joe Goldberg now goes with the name of Will Bettelheim and falls in love with the beautiful chef and heiress, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). By the end of the season, Will learns that Love herself is a sociopathic murderer who has known about Will’s dark past all along.
The third season of ‘You’, releasing in October, will see Joe and Love married and settled in the L.A. suburbs with their baby.
The psychological crime-thriller show has been widely acclaimed by fans and critics alike. The show has garnered a dedicated fan following over a short period. Additionally, an estimated 40 million people viewed the first season of ‘You’ on Netflix in its first month. This dwarfed the number of views it received on the channel Lifetime where it first appeared.
‘You’, developed by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble, led to a rise in discussions surrounding glamourization of serial killers and romanticization of toxic relationships after many fans were found to have identified with the manipulative and murderous protagonist.
