Sikkim: Multiple rooms, two ATMs vandalised at Tashiling secretariat

GANGTOK: The seat of Sikkim’s administration, the Tashiling Secretariat was vandalised on Tuesday night with the health secretariat, adjacent to Tashiling, suffering the most damages.

As many as 22 rooms belonging to the Health department, department of Personnel and Gazetter section and Home department’s store section was found vandalised on Wednesday morning.

The Sikkim Police is investigating the incident. According to early information, two individuals are suspected to be involved in the crime that likely took place between 11:30 pm and midnight on Tuesday.

While breaking and entering has been reported in multiple rooms, many shelves, including those of other State governments, were reportedly searched by the miscreants.

The accused have been charged with various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including IPC 457 – lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment, IPC 380 – theft in dwelling house, IPC 511 – punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment, and IPC 34 – done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.
