Meet Lueit Parasar Hazarika — music composer, poet, architect & an abstract artist

A music composer, poet, abstract artist and a full-time architect — all packed into one. That’s Lueit Parasar Hazarika from Assam — the man who does not seem to be happy doing just one thing.

Lueit Parasar Hazarika from Assam drew inspiration from his parents to become a musician. “Both of them were quite famous stage performers and when there is music all the time all around you, you automatically get drawn and attracted towards it” said Lueit. He took up Indian Classical vocal, the Bhatkhande style at the tender age of seven. “My father was an avid listener of most of the Indian style of music. We were not exposed to Western music as such in my childhood, although Michael Jackson was one of my favorites,” added Lueit.

His musical talents were further honed when he shifted to Bombay to pursue his studies in architecture in the year of 1995. “I came to know about so many things about music, about live music and performances,” the composer added. The city of dreams gave Lueit, a small-town guy from Tezpur in Assam the opportunity to dive deep into the world of music.

At the age of 39 and after years of honing his skills, Lueit and his friends came together to form Mineral Water, the band which focuses on songs with a social and moral message. That’s not all. Lueit has composed background songs for Meleng, an installation art for India Foundation of Arts which was screened in Los Angeles. He did another experimental music for an 8mm film which was shot within an hour and was screened in many film festivals across LA. He did a background score for Fish in a Bowl by Sakina Rashid Hazarika which was screened in Delhi International Film Festival and clinched an award in Nashik Film Festival as well.

Lueit Parasar Hazarika from Assam has also done a few projects with Doordarshan and has recently lent his ingenious music composition skills for the theme song for the movie Tumi Malala. Lueit is playing the role of the protagonist in the movie which is being directed by Rupak Gogoi and produced by Sanjive Narain.

Lueit Parasar Hazarika is also an avid fan of Salvador Dali, the Spanish Surrealist painter. “In his paintings, I found that he was taking very, very basic things very common things like even a block, or even an elephant or any other animal or even a human form and was twisting it to a scale where I mean, you look at it, you know, it is deformed, but at the same time, there is a certain kind of scale proportion, which actually came from deeper study of everything” he added. Being an abstract artist himself, he found solace in sketching and depicting things in a way that is usually not noticed by people around him.

His love for the different type of art forms has influenced each other. “I think what I do, if I am doing  architecture, then I feel my music is inspiring me. In my music, I get inspired by architecture. In my architecture, I get inspired by art in my art, I get inspired by architecture” he added.

He is just 42 and has a host of projects in the pipeline, be it as an architect, or a music composer or an abstract artist. His hands or should we say his artistic mind is absolutely full.
