Agartala: In a bid to check the spread of novel coronavirus, the Tripura government has decided to impose a near-total curfew in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas from Monday 5 am for 14 days.
Speaking with EastMojo, on condition of anonymity, sources from the state secretariat informed that the state cabinet had decided to impose corona curfew AMC in a bid to curb the spread of novel COVID-19.
“The spread of the virus is concerning as the West district has topped the tally with more than 50 per cent of cases in the last one month. The West district which comprises a large part of AMC has reported 502 cases out of the total 1,001 positive cases in the last two days which is worsening,” the source said.
Earlier on May 12, the West district administration declared ward number 5, 21 and 46 of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) as containment zones given the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
All activities within the 2 km radius of the three wards have been banned, and only emergency services will remain operational. The order will be effective from 5 am on May 13 to 6 pm on May 22 next.
The AMC has a total of 49 wards with a population of around 6 lakh people.
“A detailed guideline in this regard will be issued by the chief secretary Manoj Kumar with the Standard Operating Protocols (SOP) and exemptions of service,” the source added
