Sikkim COVID-19

Gangtok: Sikkim recorded five COVID-19 deaths on May 15, with 56 COVID fatalities in May. Among the five fatalities, four were from the STNM Hospital. It remains unclear where the fifth death occurred. Thirty-four people have died in the past four days, taking the COVID fatality tally in the State to 203.

The recovery tally saw an improvement with 201 new recoveries, making it 1,411 recoveries so far this month. However, 3,118 COVID 19 cases have also been recorded in the same period.

With 215 new COVID-19 cases recorded on May 15, the active cases tally has reached 3,010 cases. Of the total 221 patients admitted to the COVID hospitals, 137 are in the STNM, 71 in the Central Referral Hospital (CRH), and 13 in Mangan District Hospital. Thirteen were new admissions in STNM and 1 new admission in Mangan District Hospital.

The STNM has 20 patients in ICU while 12 patients are in ICU at the CRH.

Eight new patients were admitted in five COVID centres, taking the tally to 42 patients currently. Four paid quarantines accounted for 18 patients admitted. 2729 patients are currently in home isolation, with 1,944 in East Sikkim alone. 209 were new patients opting for home isolation, it remains unclear how many of them were COVID positive.

Among the 215 new cases, East Sikkim accounted for 114 cases taking the district tally to 8,150 cases. 51 new cases were recorded in South Sikkim taking the district tally to 1,763. In West Sikkim, 44 new cases were recorded taking the tally to 750. North Sikkim recorded 6 new cases taking the district tally to 197 cases.

848 tests were conducted in the State, with 689 being RTPCR resulting in 160 testing positive. 155 RAT tests resulted in 55 testing positive.
