Police personnel are now at the facility and have started investigating the matter.
Amtali sub-division police officer Anirban Das said that around 31 patients, who were inside the PRTI quarantine centre, escaped from the centre on Wednesday night.
“We have informed the police station and railway stations. The RPF have been put on alert up to Guwahati, since most of them are residents of other states,” he said.
He said while security arrangements were made on the front side of the gate, the escapees likely took off from the back side of the facility by jumping off the wall and fence.
Nodal officer for COVID-19 Dr Deep Debbarma told EastMojo said that the depertment has received information based on media reports. “The health department is yet to receive any official information on this,” he said.
The PRTI centre at Arundhuti Nagar is a 65-bedded facility being used as a covid care centre for the treatment of COVID-19 positive patients. As per the latest data, about 56 persons are undergoing treatment at the centre.
