Manipur: Kangla Fort closed to public amid rise in COVID-19 cases

Kangla Fort or Kangla Palace is the ancient capital of the Kangleipak (Manipur) Kingdom and holds the symbol of pride and glory of the state

Imphal: The historic Kangla Fort in Manipur has been temporarily closed for visitors amid the rise in COVID-19 cases in the state.

A notification issued by the Kangla Board on Sunday said people who want to enter the Kangla Fort need to take prior permission from the board. However, it is only for religious and ritualistic purposes with strict guidelines and SoPs for COVID-19.

Moreover, the Kangla board authority said visitors must take seven-day advance permission before the visit.

Kangla Fort or Kangla Palace, located in the heart of Imphal, is the ancient capital of the Kangleipak (Manipur) Kingdom and holds a symbol of pride and glory of the state.

As on November 1, Manipur has recorded 18,750 total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases, in which 15,065 persons have recovered while another 3,514 remain as active cases.

With three more deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours, the toll in Manipur has risen to 171.
