Mizoram records 1st COVID-19 death

Aizawl: Mizoram has recorded its first COVID-19 death on Wednesday, as a 62-year-old man succumbed to the disease.

With the casualty, Mizoram is no longer the only state in India with zero coronavirus fatality.

Identified as Lalsangkhuma of Dawrpui locality, he passed away at Zoram Medical College at 12:20 noon on Wednesday.

Doctors confirmed that Lalsangkhuma suffered from Covid and had a co-mrbid heart condition. He was admitted at ICU ward of ZMC on October 18.

DIPR Mizoram confirmed the news. It tweeted, "The first COVID-19 related mortality in Mizoram comes as a huge shock to the entire state. He was 62 years old with existing co-morbidities and was under treatment at ZMC for more than 10 days."

His funeral services will take place according to the state government's SOPs.

As per the last update this morning, Mizoram reported a total of 2607 COVID cases so far.
