COVID-19 cases could increase in winters: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Sarma said that in Assam infections have reduced. However, he cited the example of Delhi which saw a similar dip, but was subsequently hit with a second wave of COVID-19 infections

Guwahati:In the past one week, Assam has recorded a low positivity rate for COVID-19; however, health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that even if we are witnessing lower number of cases, we are not taking our guard down, because the number of cases could increase in the winter months.

Talking to a news channel, Sarma said that in Assam infections have reduced. However, he cited the example of Delhi, which saw a similar dip in the number of cases, but was subsequently hit with a second wave of COVID-19 infections.

He said that the battle against coronavirus will continue until we come up with a vaccine. Only, the intensity of the battle may vary.

The health minister further reiterated the need for observing precautions, stating that we can only limit the spread of the virus through precautionary measures; otherwise it will go out of hand.

Assam has so far recorded 1,83,812 cases of coronavirus infection of which, 148,960 people have been discharged, 34,128 remain as active cases, 721 have succumbed to the disease, and 3 migrated to other states.
