Sikkim records 5 casualties of COVID-19 in 48 hours, one being a suicidal death
Gangtok: Sikkim recorded five casualties to COVID-19 in the last two days, with one of them being a suicide. The tally of casualties in the State has now reached 40.
The suicide case, recorded on Wednesday, was of a 25-year-old male from Mamring in East Sikkim. He was brought to Singtam District Hospital and ultimately died at around 1.30 pm. A Rapid Antigen Test was conducted on him which showed that he was COVID positive.
Another case recorded on Wednesday was of an 89-year-old male from the Pani House area in Gangtok. He was admitted to COVID ICU on September 27 and he expired on September 29. He had earlier tested positive for COVID via Truenat sampling.
On Thursday, three deaths were recorded in Sikkim. An 80 year-old-male from near Bahai School area in Gangtok expired on September 30. He had co-morbidities of diabetes and Parkinson's Disease.
Another death recorded was of a 54-year-old male from Upper Lingchom in West Sikkim who passed away at STNM Hospital on Thursday morning. He was brought to STNM on September 14 and had co-morbidities of chronic Liver disease.
A 40-year-old male was brought to Singtam hospital on Thursday. He tested positive there and was sent to STNM in an ambulance but died before reaching the COVID hospital. The cause of his death remains unclear but as per initial reports, his blood sugar level was very high.
In the past 48 hours, Sikkim has recorded 113 COVID positive cases with 75 cases being recorded on Wednesday and 38 cases on Thursday.
District wise, East has a total of 2,168 positive cases with 27 being recorded on Thursday. West Sikkim recorded three new cases taking the tally to 141 positive cases. South Sikkim recorded eight new cases taking the tally in the district to 651 positive cases. North Sikkim remained untouched by the virus spread and has a cumulative COVID tally of mere seven cases so far. Gangtok recorded 11 cases on Thursday with one COVID positive person being untraceable and without an address.
Cumulatively Sikkim has recorded 2,969 cases so far with 636 cases being active COVID positive cases with 2,294 patients being discharged.
