In past 3 months, West Tripura district has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases, which is dangerous, say healthcare professionals
Agartala: Core committee members and senior medical experts from Tripura’s apex COVID-19 centre — Gobind Ballabh Pant Hospital — on Saturday warned that the state’s West Tripura district and capital Agartala are especially vulnerable as far as coronavirus cases are concerned.
Speaking at a press conference, a member of the technical expert committee, Professor Dr Sanjib Kumar Debbarma, said that in the past three months, the West Tripura district has reported the highest number of cases which certainly is dangerous for the people.
“The cases have been reported in last three months, however, the situation worsened in the last one week in the month of August,” Debbarma said.
Even though the medicos did not mention about the possibility of community transmission, they kept on emphasizing on the alarming positivity rate in West Tripura district.
“According to the reports 30.32 percent patients have no such history while 30.53 percent patients were found to have got contact history and 26.20 percent recently traveled outside the state”, Debbarma said.
He also said that the number of cases has increased after people came in contact with the untraced cases. “It has become clear that the numbers of cases being reported are without any travel history,” he said.
“If we undergo test, we can trace more and more cases and treat them. We appealed to the people to get tested and seek help from hospitals, health centers on sign of any illness. Most of the 94 COVID deaths occurred due to late admission”, he opined.
The medicos also informed that out of the total active cases, the West Tripura district has registered 31 percent cases alone having a large number of patients without any travel history.
“We have reached the peak of the dangerous situation in West Tripura district and if things are not brought under control immediately, things might get out of control in near future”, the core committee informed.
Meanwhile, two more persons have succumbed to novel coronavirus taking the death toll to 96 deaths with 10,879 active cases out of the total of 2,65,554 samples tested.
