COVID-19: Home minister Amit Shah recovers, to be discharged soon

Shah was under medical care at AIIMS in Delhi after recovering from COVID-19; he had tested positive on August 2

Guwahati: Union home minister Amit Shah has now recovered from the novel coronavirus and is likely to be discharged in a short time, as officials on Saturday.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Dr Aarti Vij, chairperson of AIIMS media and protocol division said, “Sh. Amit Shah, Hon’ble Home Minister is admitted at AIIMS, New Delhi for post-COVID Care. He has recovered and is likely to be discharged in a short time.”

On August 2, Shah tested positive for COVID-19, and then on August 14 tested negative for the virus. However, he was again admitted to AIIMS Delhi on August 18 for medical care after recovering from the viral infection for post-COVID-19 care.

Shah was under observation at AIIMS and for a few days and a team of doctors which was led by Dr Randeep Guleria, AIIMS director, constantly monitored his condition.

On August 18 in a medical bulletin, AIIMS said that the minister was complaining of fatigue and body aches for the past three to four days. AIIMS added that he is comfortable and is also continuing his work from the hospital.

Shah was the first minister from the Union cabinet to be tested positive for the novel coronavirus. After that, four other Union ministers tested positive for COVID-19 with Ayush minister Shripad Naik being the latest.
