Tripura govt to compensate kin of COVID-19 victims in 3 phases

Compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh to be given out in 3 phases divided into 2 installments of Rs 3 lakh each & one of Rs 4 lakh

Agartala: Amid a surge in number of COVID-19 related deaths, the Tripura government has started formulating guidelines to pay the ex gratia relief amount to families of those who succumbed due to novel coronavirus.

On May 7, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb had announced a compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh for the family members of those who died fighting coronavirus.

“The chief secretary has been directed to formulate a guideline in this matter. The state government will pay the compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh as announced by the chief minister, though the centre has changed the decision on payment of ex gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh from SDRF," informed a source on condition of anonymity.

The relief amount is likely to compensate the families of the deceased in three phases divided into two installments of Rs 3 lakh each and one of Rs 4 lakh.

In the first phase, Rs 3 lakh would be paid within a few days of death, in second Rs 3 lakh and Rs 4 lakh in the final one. The file of people who have died so far is also moved by the health department and has been moved by the state government.

Chief minister Deb had announced a revised compensation amount from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for COVID-19 related deaths for any frontline or undergoing patients.

“The state government would provide an amount of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the frontline workers, in case of deaths, including doctors, nurses, health workers, paramedics, police personnel, journalists, sweeping staffers, ICP staffers, Asha workers, civil administration officials and line departments along with all citizens," Deb said.

Meanwhile, Tripura has registered a total of 83 deaths of which five were recorded in the last 24 hours with 329 positive cases out of 4,301 samples tested on Tuesday.

The COVID-19 media bulletin informed that presently 259 persons are under facility quarantine, while 3,262 are under home quarantine, while 6,574 persons have been discharged.

So far a total of 2,49,703 samples have collected, out of which 2,48,668 were tested and 9,539 persons have tested positive for the virus, with 83 deaths and 2,534 active cases so far.

The positivity rate stands at 3.70 percent, test per million at 62,204 while the recovery rate stands at 71.50 percent and mortality rate at 0.90 percent. The number of containment zones stands at 98 as on Tuesday.
