Tripura distributes books on Swami Vivekananda to beat COVID-19 blues

CM Biplab Kumar Deb appeals everyone to stay calm and energetic & cooperate with frontline workers in fight against COVID-19

Agartala: In a move to help the COVID-19 patients overcome the testing times, Tripura government has started distributing books on Swami Vivekananda among them.

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday handed over the first batch of books to the medical superintendents of Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) hospital and Dr Br Ambedkar Teaching Hospital under the initiative of department of information and cultural affairs.

Taking to Twitter, Deb quoted Swami Vivekananda and wrote, “Strength is life, weakness is death ~ Swami Vivekananda”.

“To keep the COVID 19 Patients motivated & mentally strong, we have decided to distribute books written on Swami Vivekananda to every COVID patient so that they can read these books and get inspired by his thoughts," he wrote.

He also made an appeal to the people to stay calm and energetic and cooperate with the frontline workers in the fight against novel coronavirus.

“It is very important to stay calm and energetic when we are fighting against COVID-19," Deb added.

Meanwhile, an official from the ICA department informed that 22 books are being given to the COVID-19 patients for reading as they undergo treatment.

The books handed over to the two hospitals included Bharoter Punorgothon (Reconstruction of India), Byektitter Bikash (Development of Character), Esho Manush Hou (Come Let’s Be Human), Jago Bir (Arise Ye Brave), Otho Jago Egiye Chalo (Arise Awake and Proceed), Swamijir Upodesh (Swamiji’s advices), Swamiji o Taar Baani (Swamiji and his preachings), Vivekananda o Juba Samaj (Vivekananda and the youths) and My India: The India International, among other books.

Earlier, the education department had launched a call centre with 24 members including four doctors and physiological experts for the school students to fight mental depression and get professional assistance.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 media bulletin informed that currently 291 persons are under facility quarantine, while 3,376 are under home quarantine.

So far a total of 2,54,316 samples have collected, out of which 2,53,281 were tested and 9,542 persons have tested positive for the virus, with 85 deaths and 2,738 active cases so far.

The positivity rate stands at 3.76 percent, test per million at 63,358 while the recovery rate stands at 70.32 percent and mortality rate at 0.89 percent.
