COVID-19: Assam crosses 90,000 case-mark; positivity rate spikes to 6.89%

The state recorded, 1,272 new cases, 3,259 discharges and 8 COVID-19 related death on Sunday

Assam's positivity spiked to 6.89% as the state reported 1,272 new COVID cases from 18,435 tests conducted on Sunday. With this, Assam's total coronavirus case count stands at 90,740.

Among the new cases, 280 are from Kamrup Metro, and 134 are from Cachar district.

Also, 8 patients succumbed to the infection, taking the state's death toll to 242. Among the deceased, the youngest was 48-year-old, and the oldest 85-year-old.

Informing about the deaths, state health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "Demise of 8 Covid patients~Late Arun Thakuria(63), Late Om Prakash Sharma(56), K'rup R; Late Durga Bhahadur Sonar(48), Late Sunil Kr Fogla(85), D'garh; Late Ranjit Kr Dutta(74) K'ganj; Late Prafulla Deka(53), N'bari; Late Malai Basumatary(48), Baksa; Late Khagen Pandit(65), Hojai"

Meanwhile, Assam recorded a remarkable success as 3,259 COVID-19 patients were discharged yesterday. Congratulating healthcare workers for the achievement, the health minister tweeted, "I feel extremely happy & proud of our medical teams. Congratulations"

Assam currently stands at 90,740 cases of which, 70,900 have been discharged, 19,595 are active cases, 242 deaths and 3 migrated to other states.
