Assam: Kamrup (Metro) DC Biswajit Pegu tests positive for COVID-19

Guwahati: The Deputy commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) Biswajit Pegu on Monday tested positive for the dreaded COVID-19 virus. According to reports, Pegu tested positive for COVID-19 while doing a regular health check-up at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

In the afternoon of Monday, Pegu was admitted to GMCH. Although according to the commissioner he has not developed any symptoms associated with the virus. Additionally, contact tracing is already initiated regarding the DC. Also, health personnel have already been sent to his house to test his family members.

Moreover, Pegu was also seen with many top ministers of the state, including chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal during the August 15 Independence Day celebrations at Judge’s field.

Additionally, if sources are to be believed at least 10 other officials from the metro district administration office have been tested positive for COVID-19.

As of now, the total number of active cases in the state is at 19,595 with 70,900 recovered. The total number of cases registered so far is 90,740 and 242 people succumbed to the virus. Additionally, in the last 24 hours, 1,272 COVID-19 cases were detected in the state out of which Kamrup (M) detected 280 cases.
