70-year-old woman from Thoubal succumbs to COVID-19 at JNIMS Hospital; she had co-morbid conditions, say officials
Imphal: Another person who was undergoing treatment at the COVID-19 care facility in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital in Imphal became the latest victim of COVID-19 on Saturday. This is the 22nd case of fatality due to the coronavirus in the state.
According to a statement issued by additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, a 70-year-old woman from Thoubal district succumbed to the coronavirus. The victim was suffering from other co-morbid conditions.
In the last 24 hours, 83 more cases, including 22 personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), were infected with COVID-19, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 5,132.
As per the official statement, only one returnee belonging to Chandel district was among the 61 new cases from the general population who were tested positive for COVID-19.
The latest local cases with no travel history are from the districts of Imphal West (26), Imphal East (17), Bishnupur (5), Thoubal (5), Churachandpur (4), Chandel (2), Kakching (1). They are being shifted to COVID-19 Care Centres for further treatment, it said.
In terms of recovered cases, another 194 infected persons were discharged after they were tested COVID-19 free on RT PCR test.
With this, the recovery rate in the state is 67.32 per cent.
As on August 22, the number of recovered cases is 3,455, of which 2,938 are from the general population and 517 are security personnel.
Of the total 1,655 active cases, 839 are from the general population and 816 are armed forces personnel.
