Tinsukia: A shocker came from Assam when a 26-day-old baby died at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh on Wednesday night, making it the youngest death of a COVID-19 positive patient from Tinsukia district. However, as per the Cadaver report form, the "cause of death" is said to be respiratory failure.
The development comes days after a four-day-old baby from Bongaigaon district became the youngest person in the state to test positive for the coronavirus. The baby has been reported to have recovered.
According to sources, the male baby from Tinsukia district was admitted to the COVID ICU bed number 25 on August 10. "He was suffering from sepsis with meningitis with acquired pneumonia," the sources added.
The sources added that the baby was a COVID-19 patient and died two days after he was admitted, taking the death toll of Covid-19 positive patients in Tinsukia to 39.
On Wednesday, the death toll in the state had risen to 161.
Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Wednesday, "Alert ~ 4593 COVID cases detected out of 143109~ maximum tests done in a single day with positivity rate just 3.20%
