Bengaluru: A state-run hospital in Bengaluru crossed a new milestone in the COVID-19 saturated world news. They have been able to deliver 200 babies born to COVID-19 positive mothers and are all COVID-19 negative.

This landmark development came from the Victoria and Vani Vilas Hospital on Tuesday. According to Dr CR Jayanti, the director and dean of the hospital, that was the only COVID-19 facility reserved for pregnant women. Thanking her staff, she said in an interview with a leading daily that they understand the turmoil pregnant women go through.

She also pointed out the fact that delivering babies in full PPE kits is no mean feat.

Even Karnataka’s medical education minister Dr K Sudhakar lauded the hospital staff for their “great service.” He said that he acknowledges the OB/GYN doctors and that in a scenario where private hospitals were afraid and turning away patients, it was these government-run hospitals that stood up and did a great service to humanity.

This news comes in the time when Karnataka has seen a spike in COVID-19 cases in recent days.

Just on Tuesday evening, the state recorded over 1.82 lakh cases out of which 80,000 were still active cases and the death toll reached 3,300. In the capital city Bengaluru alone, more than 75,000 people have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
