New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the country has just launched the first coronavirus vaccine, also said to be the world's first. Putin's daughter got a shot of the vaccine, reports said.

"This morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the new coronavirus was registered in Russia," Putin said during a televised video conference call with government ministers, reported AFP.

The President also thanked everyone who worked on the vaccine against the deadly novel coronavirus, and described it as "a very important step for the world".
