93 new cases reported today, clarifies health official; 1 sample that of re-test; total tally touches 2,498 in state; 26 more recover
Kohima: Two more COVID-19 related deaths have been reported in Nagaland, taking the death toll to six. Although seven deaths have been reported in the state so far, six of them have been established as due to COVID-19 by the state government.
One of the latest casualties is that of a 38-year-old woman from Aoyimti village in Dimapur who passed away on July 29. As per reports, the patient who had comorbidities passed away after allegedly being denied admission to some hospitals for not possessing a COVID-19 test report. The person was tested positive for COVID-19 both in the TrueNat and RT-PCR test after death and on Wednesday; the cause of death was established as due to COVID-19.
The other death is that of a 41-year-old man, who passed away at Duncan Basti on July 31. The patient was reportedly brought dead to a private hospital in Dimapur. The deceased was tested as positive on both TrueNat and RT-PCR tests. On Wednesday, the death was also confirmed as due to COVID-19.
Earlier on Wednesday, Nagaland health minister S Pangnyu Phom had informed that 94 new cases were reported in the state. However, a health official later clarified that only 93 new cases were detected in the state on Wednesday as one sample result was that of a re-test.
As per the health and family welfare's daily bulletin, the number of new cases is confirmed as 93 which took the state's tally for positive cases to 2,498.
Out of the 93 new cases, 14 returnees, 59 armed forces personnel, 19 traced contacts and one other were declared as positive for COVID-19. Overall, a total of 1078 armed forces, 1045 returnees, 167 frontline workers, 174 traced contacts and 34 others have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state till Wednesday.
Case in the others category include those COVID-19 positive cases related to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Raj Bhavan and patients excluding returnees.
Meanwhile, another 26 persons also recovered from COVID-19 on Wednesday increasing the number of recovered cases to 685. Out of the new recovered cases, 18 persons are from Peren district, three each from Zunheboto and Kohima, and two from Mokokchung have recovered from COVID-19.

One death is Covid-19 positive but not due to Covid-19. Two persons from Kohima and Dimapur has migrated to Rajasthan and Kerela. As per the severity of symptoms, all 1804 active cases are asymptomatic.
