Imphal: Saturday saw the highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases in Manipur with 135 persons, including 80 security personnel testing positive.
Besides the security personnel, 37 locals with no immediate travel history were confirmed positive informed additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.
Fifty-five locals tested COVID-19 positive in the last 24 hours. They belong to the districts of Imphal East (31), Imphal West (9), Bishnupur (4), Thoubal (3), Kakching (2), Tengnoupal (2), Kangpokpi (1) and Ukhrul (1). They have been shifted to various COVID-19 care facilities and centres for further treatment.
Intensive contact tracing to identify the persons who had contact history with a confirmed case and containment process are already in place to combat the further spread of the virus, said Dr Mangang.
The total confirmed cases for COVID-19 in Manipur has soared to 2,756, in which the accumulative numbers of active and recovered cases are 1,051 and 1,699, respectively.
Ten infected persons have recovered and discharged from various COVID-19 care centres and facilities in the past 24 hours.
Manipur recorded six COVID-19 related deaths, latest being a 77-year-old man from Chandel district who died at Catholic Medical Center (CMC) Hospital Koirengei on Friday night.
