Nagaland records new biggest single-day spike; 130 more test COVID positive

With 109 new COVID-19 cases reported from Dimapur and 21 from Kohima, the state's tally now stands at 1,823

Kohima: Just a day after the state reported 127 new cases of COVID-19, Nagaland recorded another biggest single day-spike as 130 new cases were detected in the state on Saturday.

The state's tally is now nearing the 2,000-mark as it hit 1,823 in less than 70 days, since the first cases of COVID-19 were detected in the state on May 25. The new cases were reported out of 552 sample results that were received.

While 109 cases were reported from Dimapur, 21 cases are from Kohima. Nagaland health minister S Pangnyu Phom informed that the contact tracing has been fully activated.

With the addition of the new cases, Dimpaur is currently with 640 active cases and Kohima with 368 active cases. This is the second consecutive day when the number of new cases is above the 100-mark and cases being reported only from Dimapur and Kohima districts.

In just two days, Dimapur has reported 205 new cases and Kohima reported 52 new cases. Both districts have not reported a single recovered case in the past two days.

The current COVID-19 status is:

Confirmed: 1823

Active: 1182

Recovered: 635

Death: 4*

Six deaths have been reported from Dimapur. However, only four deaths are confirmed as due to COVID-19. One death is COVID-19 positive but not due to Covid-19. One death had co-morbidities and tested COVID-19 positive and the cause of death is still under investigation.

Till Friday, a total of 897 returnees, 566 armed forces, 118 frontline workers, 81 traced contacts and 31 others which includes cases related to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) and patients excluding returnees, have tested positive for COVID-19.
